Primary standards // Standard solution
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:55:34 AM »
Is there any substance which is a better primary standard than sodium hydroxide and can be used to make a standard solution which can then be used to titrate ethanoic acid?

Thanks

i guess i worded my question badly

what i meant was just is there any substance which is a primary standard and can be used to make a standard solution which can then be used to titrate ethanoic acid. any substance at all, if yes, please say so and if possible, give a link which provides more information on it

normal primary standards we learn in high school like sodium carbonate dont work because its a weak base, so i guess the substance has to be a strong base?

and i know substances like sodium hydroxide can just be standardized by another titration and then used as a standard, but im looking for a substance which is a primary standard itself and does not need to be standardized

if i was unclear about anything please say so and ill try asking more clearly

Thanks

I am not aware of such substance.
