Quick assistance needed on chemistry heat question
« on: July 06, 2009, 04:59:17 PM »
What volume of benzene (C6H6, d= 0.88 g/mL, molar mass = 78.11 g/mol) is required to produce 1.5 x 103 kJ of heat according to the following reaction?

2C6H6(l)+15O2(g)-->12CO2(G)+6H2O(g)     :delta:Hrxn=-6278kj

Well, 1.5 x 103 kJ = 154.5 kJ.

Your reaction gives off 3139 kJ mol-1 of benzene, so how many moles of benzene do you need? Which is what mass of benzene, and so what volume?
