Chlorine in Methyl Ethyl Ketone?
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:23:50 PM »
Can someone tell me if Methyl Ethyl Ketone contains chlorine or is chlorinated??? Cleaning of Titanium with chlorine contributes to hydrogen embrittlement.

Thank you for any answers to this question.  Brad

Methyl ethyl ketone, as the name suggests, does not contain any chlorine itself. However, this does not mean that a sample of it may not have chlorine as an impurity. Can you get something like a certificate of analysis or similar from your supplier?

Thanks for your input - I'll take your suggestion and check on that.

I can imagine if it contains much Cl2, it'l form a mono/di/tri-chloroketone, and going from my experience with chloroactone, it'l be a vicious lachrymator (tear gas agent)
