Can 1 molar HCl eat through a stainless steel sink?
« on: July 20, 2009, 04:04:38 AM »
Several small holes the size of  pin pricks have appeared in a stainless steel sink and the sink has begun to leak its contents through these holes.

The only acid that has been used lately is 1 molL-1 HCl - and perhaps some 3 molL-1 H2SO4

Any explanations  ???

Thanks
