One can use D
2O for what's known as a "deuterium exchange" experiment. Certain protons (
1H) will exchange with deuterium (
2H), such as those you have mentioned.
I'm not going to give you the whole answer because it's fun coming up with the answer yourself
, but consider whether or not deuterium is NMR-active, and the consequence of the 1H-NMR spectrum.
