batch, continuous and hybrid processes
« on: August 26, 2009, 04:34:56 AM »
hi ,
im doing an assignment on processes and unit operations and am having a little trouble

i need to classify either of the following questions as continuous batch or a hybrid process(in the hybrid case whether its a semi batch, feed batch or batch product). can someone also explain what a hybrid process is and what a feed batch and batch product is?

1) the vaporization of a fraction of the 'bottoms' of a distillation column in an oil refinery running at full capacity by a kettle reboiler and its return to the column - would this be a steady state continuous process

2) same as 1) but the column is being shut down for maintenance

3) the pumping of water from a mine whose depth is a distance below the water table that varies slowly over the year
would this be a unsteady state continuous process

4) the production of a cake where you add all the ingredients to a bowl mix them and then pour it into a tin and cook it
i put it down as a batch process

5) the growing of a replacement bladder by first seeding a scaffold with cells from the intended recipient and then allowing the bladder to grow whilst providing a regular supply of nutrients - a hybrid process?

6) the production of sausages by extruding a mixed filling from a vessel into a continuous protein casing (the skin) that is then twisted off at regular intervals to form the individual sausages- continuous steady state process?

7) the running of an aircraft gas turbine during take off
is this an unsteady state continuous process

any help will be greatly appreciated thanks
