Okay, here's my lab experiment. It's a redox reaction, in which I've figured out the oxidation half-reaction. However, I'm stumped as for the reduction half reaction. Here's a very brief outline of what I did in the lab:
-Dissolved 55mg of 9-hydroxyfluorene in 3mL of acetone.
-Added 4 drops of glacial acetic acid.
-Added 0.4mL of NaOCl to the reaction mixture on 3 separate occasions to drive the reaction to completion (or as near as possible).
My oxidation half reaction would be 9-hydroxyfluorene going to 9-fluorenone using the NaOCl. However, I'm stumped as for the Reduction half reaction. Any helpful hints/ideas?
