Paper chromatography: Which reagent is best to develop Mn2+?
« on: September 24, 2008, 12:51:33 PM »
Mn2+ (aq) + 2OH-(aq) >>> Mn(OH)2 (solid, pale pink)

Mn2+(aq) + C2O4 2- (aq) >>>> MnC2O4 (solid, pale pink)

2Mn2+(aq) + [Fe(CN)6]4- >>> Mn2Fe(CN)6 (solid, pale green)

2Mn2+(aq) + 5BiO3-(aq) + 14H+ (aq) >>> 2MnO4-(aq, deep purple) + 5Bi3+ + 7H2O (l)

Can someone please point me in the right direction? I believe it is the fourth one because the MnO4 compound is aqueous and there is liquid water involved.

Thank you.

This question was posted last fall and has not been answered. Here I am one year later looking for the answer to the exact same question.  Is there anyone that can help?

Much thanks!
