pure solids and liquids in equilibria
« on: September 25, 2009, 06:01:27 PM »
Why are liquids and solids not put into the equilibrium constant? If there is increase of the liquid or solid, would that not increase the number of collisions and therefore affect the overall rate of reaction?

Rate yes, equilibrium no.

To be more precise: it will increase both forward and reverse rates in exactly the same degree, thus it won't shift equilibrium.

how could it affect both sides of reaction of a pure solid or liquid was only on one side?
