How do I calculate the uncertainty?
« on: October 01, 2009, 01:25:25 AM »
say I have done a titration 3 times and the results were
26.7  ,  26.8 ,   26.9

I know that the mean of these values  is
(26.7 + 26.8 + 26.9)/3 = 26.8

so, would the uncertainty of this mean be:

the (maximum value recorded - the minimum value recorded) /3

(26.9 - 26.7) /3 = +/- 0.07  ?

this method was given to me by a friend, Ive never seen it before so I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me whether it is right or wrong

thankyou!

Well i'm not 100% sure but i would like to *delete me*

here you have done a titration, so what you have used to calculate the volume needed to titrate..was a buret, and the uncertainty of it is +/-0.02..
so i dont know really if there is any way to calculate it..
and additionally i would like to tell you that your result were to have to numbers after the decimal since the uncertainty of the buret lies in the interval..
hope it helps..

Good Luck :)
