Oxymercuration question
« on: October 14, 2009, 07:53:07 PM »
the question asks,

my answer is..

any reason that's incorrect?

I'm pretty sure the reaction should be... adding H20 in markovnikov fashion, and the response doesn't have to be stereo-specific, so.. what am I doing wrong? :/

I've tried specifying that the other hydrogen is on the carbon left of the OH-carbon, but it still won't accept it.

count your carbons.  number the carbon chain in the SM and the SM in the pdt ;)
Knowing why you got a question wrong is better than knowing that you got a question right.
