Cleaving of C-C bonds

Lead tetra acetate and periodic acid can be used to cleave the carbon-carbon bond (containing the alcoholic groups) in a 1-2 diol...
Can they be used to cleave c-c bond in some other compounds iother than 1-2 diols? (like 1,3 diols)
Can any other compounds be used for the same purpose?
Please explain

Do you mean lead tetra acetate + periodic acid can cleave the c-c in a diol, or do you mean each of those can cleave the c-c bond individually?

As in lead tetra acetate can cleave the c-c bond but periodic acid can also cleave the c-c bond?

Or do you mean that lead tetra acetate combined with periodic acid can cleave the c-c bond?

If you consider the mechanism, it's unlikely you'll cleave 1,3-diols and similar in the same way. I believe you can cleave 1,2-diamines and beta-amino alcohols with this combination though.
