titration of Potassium manganate(VII) with an ethanedioate?
« on: October 22, 2009, 03:12:24 AM »
Hi, heres the method for titration: http://i35.tinypic.com/fu4djo.jpg
If I took ~ 42.75ml of FB2 and diluted with water.
What could be expected titre in the Titration part?

In this titration we are taking 25ml of FB3 (dil. FB2) with 25ml H2SO4 & 40ml distilled water

Following the full instructions, what could be the volume of KMnO4 (FB1) added at end point?
Normally isn't it ~ 24-27 ml titre of FB1 if just 25ml of FB2 (conc.)where in the flask?

PLease let me know as i'm unable to use lab for this experiment.

Heres the specifications for each chemicals used:

Will this be helpful in estimating the titre? If so, then please explain/show how?  :-\

You are given concentration of oxalic acid, you are given concentration of permanganate - that's simple stoichiometry.

Ok well..we are not given concentration of oxalic acid in the questions paper.
The specfication, which we are not given, gives both concentrations.

I have to find the conc. of FB2 by doing the titration ,but i can't do the titration as i don't have the lab unavailable. So i just need to find out what the titre willl be.
Thats why i showed the specification as i can't do with actual  chemicals right now.

How can i estimate the titre with concentration of oxalic acid & permanganate?
Once i find the titre i can proceed to find the conc. of hydrated ethanedioic acid

It doesn't matter where do you know oxalic acid concentration from, calculation of titrant volume will be exactly the same. This is simple stoichiometry, simple stoichiometry questions are solved using reaction equation.

Besides, in normal lab practice you don't know estimate of the titrant volume beforehand, you just do the first titration slowly.

Ok so can i deduce the volume of FB1 by this formula?

where

So,

So could the titre be 65.1mL of FB1 ?
If so then how is that possible? A burette is  only 50mL....I'm quite confused now  :P

Yes you can. This is wrong formula, so the result will be wrong, but there is nothing that can stop you from using it.

This is third and last time I am writing it: STOICHIOMETRY.

Oh i see... well i did miss that ::)

so from the equation in this
http://www.titrations.info/titration-calculation

2 mol MnO4-  reacts with 5mol C2O42-
Therefore will equation b:
  ??

In that case titre could be:

I hope thats right now?  :-\
