pyridine-water mixture

dear Sir,

i boiled a mixture of water and pyridine (total-40 ml).  a white residue was left after complete dryness of the beaker. no smeel of pyridine is coming from the beaker. i hear that pyridine forma a azetrope with water and boils at 94 o C. then what is the solid?. pl help with any information on the subject.

You should really be more specific about what you were doing- were you just boiling water and pyridine together for fun?

Maybe the residue is something left over from another experiment that adhered to the flask as a result of improper cleaning? As a result of your limited description of what you were doing there is no telling what the problem might be (based on my limited knowledge).

But if you are serious, then maybe you could do an NMR or IR or both on the residue. That might give you an idea of what it is and you could report back here with your results.

How pure was the water?  Tap water, DI water, 18MOhm water?
