Density question.
« on: November 02, 2009, 01:30:53 PM »
Does it matter how much mass you use for a metal to find the density? For instance if i use 9.5 grams and 20.05 grams or even 40.05 grams, and then get the volume for them, will they come out pretty close to one another for density? lets say we were using aluminum as the metal. Will they be close to aluminum's density which i think is about 2.70 g/mL?

It should not matter how much mass you use to calculate density.

However, if the scale you measured the mass on had an estimated error of 0.5 grams, then more mass you measure the less error has an affect on your calculation.
