Randon question about plastic and its chemicals...
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:40:51 PM »
I know this is a random question, but I'm doing some independent research and I'm wondering if any of these chemicals can be used to make, or play a major role as an ingredient in manufacturing any type of plastic...

-Azoxystrobin

-Chloroacetone

-2-Nitrophenol

-2-Acetylnicotinic acid

-Cyclopentanone

-glyoxlyic acid

-methyoxyacetic acid

-Mesotrione

-s-Metolachlor

-Prodiamine

ANY help or insight into what these chemicals are used for - specifically if they are used to make plastic would be great!

Hello dmccroy,

Plastic is a really general term which usually means a high molecular mass chemical.  The following link provides an overview of plastics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic

Almost any additive can impart some special attributes to plastic. There are special additives that are used for coloring, some for making the plastic less-rigid, and some for making the plastic more heat stable.

Each application of a plastic will have its own need for certain properties of the plastic. The products that you mentioned would not be a raw ingredient in making the base plastic, and tests with these chemicals may provide some qualities that are desirable.

Take some of the material and safely mix it with plastic.

Best wishes,

Eugene
