Vapor pressure

I don't understand the concept of vapor pressure and when I read about it it's often associated with liquids. Can someone explain me really well what vapor pressure is ?

You have a liquid. This liquid vaporises. Once it vaporise it is gaseous. This gas has some pressure. This is pressure of the vapour.

As every liquid vaporises, vapor pressure is often connected with the presence of the liquid. Or at least liquid will be present if the pressure of the vapour was high enough, that's saturated vapor then.

But does the vapor pressure relate to the pressure that the gas exerts over the remaining liquid or not ?

So, does that mean solids have vapor pressure as well ?

If no other gas is present then the vapor pressure is the pressure the gas exerts over the remaining liquid.

Well yes solids also have vapor pressure and you define melting point as the temperature at which vapor pressure of solid phase is same as that of the liquid phase
