I am delving to analyze lignin degradation products in an aqueous sample containing residual lignin and a mixture of degradation products, predominantly organic acids.

I was wondering whether extraction of organic acids from the matrix and analyze it by GC-MS (I don't have access to LC-MS) is the only solution to the problem.

All comments and suggestions are most welcome.
