Easy questions about IR adsorbtion
« on: February 16, 2010, 01:06:30 AM »
Halo to everyone, I am an undergraduate student and I have some confuse about the concepts of IR after the lecture.
Hope you can spend some time to solve my questions!

Q1. If the molecule has greatest change in dipole moment, would it have broader beak shown on IR spectrum?
For example: O-H stretching vs C-H stretching)
Or there is no relationship between these two things?

Q2. Why the C-C triple bond always shows weak adsorbtion on IR spectrum and even if the C-C triple bond is internal, no corresponding peak would be shown?

Q3. If the bonding is strong, would it have more intense absorption (greater percentage of transmittance)?
For example: C=O, C-N triple bond show intense adsorption
