Phenylethanamide is produced when a solution of pheylammonium chloride solid reacts with sodium ethanoate dissolved in water. This forms phenylamine and ethanoic acid. The phenylamine is then reacted with ethanoic acid. The product is then formed as a solid precipitate.

Are you following a literature procedure? If you are, how recent is it, and what yields to the authors obtain? Is it possible there may be an alternate prep (different reaction conditions) that has a higher yield?
