Method for making sulfuric acid

I thought of making sulfuric acid with aluminum sulfate like this

                     
                 Al2(SO4)3 + CH3COOH :rarrow: Al(CH3COO)3 + H2SO4



and the other method is making a solution  of water and aluminum sulfate and passing electricity with graphite electrodes


Will this methods work?

Are you looking for a fun experiment or an available concentrated sulfuric acid source?

I just want an acid that is stronger than vinager for experiments, and it would be intesting to make it my self than just going to a store.

I want the acid stronger than vinager but not as strong as concentrated acids like HCl.

I tried to mix the auminum sulfate with vinager and the acid came in gas form, I was thinking of using and arrangement of cups like this because I dont have the special flasks for changing acids from gas form an aqueus solution.

The only effect of your experiment is conversion of vinager to vinegar.

You can be sure sulfates are sitting happily in the solution and they don't plan to evaporate.

Can you explain me why would it be turning vinager to vinager?


Another question about electrolysis:

If I take a aluminum sulfate solution and pass electricity trough it with copper electrodes would it make copper sulfate?

Is this a possible reaction?
We have a weaker acid(acetic acid) displacing a stronger acid(H2SO4) from its salt, which is impossible.
Similarly so for the water and aluminium sulphate reaction.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

It is possible, but not in this case I don't believe.

One example of it occuring would be using LeChatlier's to drive the formation of HCl gas when sulfuric acid is added to sodium chloride.
Another example would be HSAB theory working to form a stronger base through ion exchange.

Yes and no. Generally it is very unlikely, but in some particular situations other things prevail.

Each rule of thumb has its range of applicability :)
