formation of K3(Fe(C2O4)3.3H2O
« on: November 29, 2005, 03:34:09 PM »
why do we add
K2C2O4.H2O +FeC2O4.23H2O  then in a next step we add  oxalic acid
instead of adding oxalic acid ? +FeC2O4.23H2O directly
earth is larger than a molecule

Is THIS what you meant:

In the synthesis of K3(Fe(C2O4)3).3H2O,
Why do we add K2C2O4.H2O to Fe(C2O4)2.3H2O, and then add oxalic acid,
instead of adding an oxalic acid and Fe(C2O4)2.3H2O mixture, directly?

[Are we even supposed to try to fix messages like this?]

Write down a balanced reaction, and all will be clear.
You start from Fe(II), and finally you will obtain salt of Fe(III)

FeC2O4 + K2C2O4 + H2C2O4 + O2 = K3[Fe(C2O4)3] + H2O
