asking for helping!
« on: April 12, 2010, 05:05:32 AM »
Some days ago , I read a paper , which says : maleic anhydride can react with the mixture of 2 , 2’-bipyridine and CuCl . However , it doesn’t give more information , while I want to know it in detail , do you know the mechanism of the reaction of maleic anhydride with CuCl and 2 , 2’- bipyridine ?Thank you very much!

I assume the reaction is adduct formation between maleic anhydride and 2,2'-bipyridine.

I do not know the exact mechanism, but think of copper chloride as a soft lewis acid, and you may have some ideas about what happens in the pot.

You could try searching scifinder to see if anyone has published mechanisms for similar reactions.
