Will a copper-chelate bond with aluminum?
« on: April 26, 2010, 11:39:34 AM »
Is it possible to bond a copper chelate/organo-copper compound with aluminum?  The difference in standard electrode potentials between Cu and Al suggests that it is, but since Al has an obnoxious oxide layer preventing the reaction from taking place I'm not so sure.

If it were possible to remove the oxide layer (with acid?) in an inert atmosphere, would the copper chelate then bond with the Al?

Thanks!
