what chemical reacts to Tobacco smoke?

Can anyone tell me what chemical reacts to Tobacco smoke? Maybe change a color when interduced to tobacoo smoke?

At last check, there are about 4000 chemicals in cigarettes. I guess the best way would be to test for nicotine.

They actually have commercial smoke detectors meant specifically for cigarettes. I don't know how they work.

A quick google found a lot of acids in smoke. Maybe litmus paper. But thats a very broad spectrum, it could be alot of things.

do you mean tobacco smoke introduced into a controlled environment like a container?
And what state would the other chemical be in: liquid, gas, solid?
