Building a Fitzroy Storm Glass
« on: June 09, 2010, 11:01:16 AM »
Hi -
I'm building a storm glass and have a question. I followed the directions [http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryhowtoguide/a/stormglass.htm] very carefully. Everything worked exactly as it said it would, but now that the chemical mixture is in the corked test tube, there is absolutely no reaction occurring - even though we've been having all sorts of weather fluctuation here in Michigan in the past few days.

Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong or how to "supercharge" this thing to get it going? This is just my test batch in preparation for building a much larger scale storm glass. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks!

Did you stopper it enough? Try sealing it totally by melting the glass down.
