« on: June 20, 2010, 01:48:59 PM »
Can someone please help me name this molecule?

I think its: 2-propylhept-2-ene  but my homework keeps telling me its wrong!

I've attached an image of the molecule.

Thank You!

It is wrong, because the chain you have chosen is not the longest one. Chain length gets more priority than the position of the double bond (lowest locant)
