I was hired 3 months after I graduated by a company that does work for the Department of Energy at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. I have been working here for 5 months now and want to leave if I can find a job. I am a Radiochemist/Environmental Engineer it pays well and the benefits are ok, but I hate it.
There are multiple reasons behind my contempt for this job.
1. Everyone else makes more than me and has awesome benefits. Somehow I got screwed out of higher pay and benefits. The girl next to me who technically works for me makes 10,000 more a year with a Biology degree.
2. The company that I work for is a jerk. The DOE called the day due to weather, all the salaried and managers get the day covered by the DOE. I have to make up the hours. They have also told me I will not be getting a raise...ever.
3. I don’t do any chemistry. Due to the union somehow doing all the work (with high school diplomas) I can’t actually do any chemistry. I can’t prep samples or run an instrument. I am effectively a manager I troubleshoot for people and fix things when they go wrong. I also do data review and procedure development.
4. I am bored the whole time I am here. On any given day I do about 30min of work.
So, is my hate for this job justified? Will leaving a job after 5months look bad or can I give these reasons to future employers?
Sorry for the rant.
