I'm looking for a very soft oxidizer - I have small amounts of lead on a sheet of zinc, and am hoping to bubble something like molecular iodine through water onto the sheet, and have the lead be abstracted, but not the zinc. Would this work?
The next problem, I suppose, is that even if the iodine preferentially oxidizes the lead, there is little to keep the lead from oxidizing the zinc once it's in solution, and glomming back onto the sheet. Are there any cheap multidentate ligands that would nicely fit a Pb2+ in order to keep it in solution?
Thanks,
Dylan
