KMnO4 oxidation

what is good way for oxidation by using acidic KMnO4 or alkaline KMnO4,when i am adding some acid to KMnO4 it get too hot ,is it unsafe?

several reactions say that you must keep a 0 C with a ice bath, some in boiling temps..

The KMnO4 solution should be diluted with water incase it gets too hot.
Acid should be added dropwisely, and immerse the flask in cold water from time to time.
