Dehydrohalogenation of 2-bromo-1-pentene
« on: August 29, 2010, 06:47:56 PM »
Hi there,

is it possible to start with CH3-CHBr-CH2-CH=CH2 and turn it into CH3-CH=CH-CH=CH2 just with hot KOH and alcohol?

Will the extra double bond be formed or will the OH group add across the double bond?

yes, and this base will not add to the double bond
