In an electrolysis of brine which compost is used to form a product with a distinctive smell commonly used in everyday life?
Well, I thought the product was the detergent and found that the reactions are:
2 Cl-                 -> Cl2 + 2e
2H20 + 2e       -> H2 + 2 OH-
2H20 + 2 Cl-    -> Cl2 + H2 + 2 OH-
2NaCl + 2H2O  -> Cl2 + 2NaOH + H2
2NaOH + Cl2  -> NaCl + NaClO + H2O
NaCl + 3H2O  -> NaClO3 + 3H2
3Cl2 + 6NaOH -> 5NaCl + NaClO3 + 3H2O

So I was in doubt. The first three are: the oxidation reaction, reduction and overall equation, but then I did not understand if the intent is to form NaClO3 or NaClO. For that I saw, if heats NaClO is formed NaClO3 and to stop is necessary control the temperature. Thus, in the electrolysis of brine which compound is formed and used to form such product ?
