Extraction coefficient....could someone verify this real quick?
« on: September 27, 2010, 07:39:37 PM »
Q: What is the volume of ether required to extract 0.95 g of aspirin from 1.0 g of aspirin in 100 mL of water, in a single extraction? KD=CEther/CWater

A: 3.5 = [Ether]/[Water] = (0.95 g aspirin / VEther) / [(1.00 g aspirin - 0.95 g aspirin) / 100 mL Water] ==> VEther = 543 mL

Is this correct? My textbook doesn't cover extraction coefficients so this is kind of a guess. Thank you.
