How many moles of iron
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:14:23 PM »
Iron metal reacts with O2 and produces 30 g iron (III) oxide. How many moles of iron does 30 g iron oxide contains?

Equation: 4Fe + 3O2 = 2Fe2O3

1 mol of Fe2O3 = 159.7 g
x mol of Fe2O3 = 30 g

x = 30g /159.7 g = 0.188 mol

4 mol of Fe = 2 mol of Fe2O3, proportionately it's 0.188 x 2 = 0.3757 moles of iron

Please, if it is incorrect, explain where I am wrong. Thank you

Looks OK. Watch sig figs.
