Solubility of Carboxylic acids and Esters?
« on: October 03, 2010, 04:54:24 PM »
Can someone help explain if these 2 are soluble or insoluble in water in terms of their molecular structure?

I know "like dissolves like" but what does it really mean in terms of these acids and esters?

I researched online but I'm getting kind of confused. Are the acids soluble because they contain the O-H bonds? What makes any molecule soluble or insoluble anyways?
