Reaction of formaldehyde with sulfuric acid
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:24:48 PM »
My text asks to predict the reaction that would take place between from formaldehyde and sulfuric acid and the answer is no reaction will take place.

Isn't sulfuric acid a stronger acid than the conjugate acid of formaldehyde and therefore donate one of its protons to somehow attach to the formaldehyde?
