Free online chemical database?
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:26:16 PM »
Anyone know of an extensive online chemical database that I can search without having to pay for? I know the value of the property I want to reference, (More than one web site confirms) but I'm not allowed to reference something that isn't reliable or that I cannot find the source for. I've tried using the Cambridge Biochemfinder, but that turned out to be nothing but a waste of time due to random errors while searching and literature material I'm supposed to pay a lot of money for. I could just reference it and not cite it, but that would get me points docked on my lab.

I don't see why referencing general chemical properties has to be this difficult.

Have you checked if your school library doesn't have access to some database?

I have started to search the names of the reference materials I have used in the past (other than the Merck Index and the CRC) and I came up with the Sigma-Aldrich site, which seems to work well. Just took me a while to find.
