Oxidation Reduction Help
« on: October 20, 2010, 12:36:02 AM »
Hey guys found you on Reddit.  I have a quiz tomorrow and I cannot figure out this problem at all  ??? :(  If someone could help me I would really appreciate it.

A tin electrode Sn(NO3)2 is connected to a hydrogen electrode in which the pressure of H2 is 1.0 bar.  If the cell potential is 0.057 V at 25 C what is the pH of the electrolyte at the hydrogen electrode?

I know I need to use the Nernst equation but I can't figure out the ox/redox for tin :(

You have solid Sn and Sn2+ in the solution. Reaction must convert one to the other.
