Electron Configurations of Ground State Atoms
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:51:30 PM »
It says in my book the order of assigning electrons is...

1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, 3d

Why does it go to 4s before 3d?

I figured out a numerical method to figure out the order. It would have been helpful if they included it in the book instead of giving a simple example of the first few orders. I understand the concept superficially. I don't know why energy levels progress the way they do in the orbitals.
