Hello, I am a recent member of this forum. I joined in hopes of finding a suitable resin/plastic for my current project. As for a little background, I am a senior at the University of the Arts, getting my bachelors in science for Industrial Design. We are just now starting our senior capstone(thesis) and my topic is a material study on an alternative to fiberglass.
I have worked with fiberglass in the past, and love everything about it except for the fact that it pretty much never degrades. As a designer I am hoping to meld organic fibers that are easily sustainable and healthy for the environment to grow with natural resins and or plastics. Currently I have been sampling bamboo fibers and filtered and purified tree sap. The Sap resin I made would be great if it weren't so brittle.
I came here in hopes to further my research, and collaborate with those in the chemical field that will have the knowledge to lead me in the right direction. I hope to hear from you all with your suggestions and ideas!
