Help with condensed structural formulas for ketones please...
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:02:36 PM »
So Im supposed to write condensed structural formulas for ketones that have the formula C6H12O.
I know you can move the carbonyl group to any carbon except the carbons on the end of the chain. I know hexanone is one of the formulas, but I dont know how to write it. I tried to look up online, but I couldnt find anything. I dont know if the condensed formula for hexanone is CH3CH2CH2CH2COHCH3. I know it doesnt have an OH group.  Please help Im totally lost. I have been stuck on this for a few hours now. Thanks in advance.

Its supposed to be a 6 carbon chain with a carbonyl group (oxygen with a double bond) over the second carbon in the chain.

I dont know what 2-hexanone is. Is it the carbonyl group on the second carbon on the chain?
