Im looking for a basic reaction that has acetophenone as my starting material, if you could suggest a couple options that would be great :)

Is this for instructional use?  Haloform is a good one, you can use commercial bleach as an oxidant or you can use iodine (cool reaction, iodoform precipitates out)

Acetophenone + I2  :rarrow: Benzoic Acid + Iodoform

react with hydroxylamine to form the oxime - quantitative and easy.

NH2OH.HCl + KOH in EtOH, filter off the KCl ppt and add the filtrate to acetophenone and reflux overnight.
