Meldrum's acid synthesis mechanism reaction!
« on: November 14, 2010, 05:31:56 AM »
Hello,

Does anyone have an idea how the mechanism would look for the synthesis of Meldrum's acid rection?
The synthesis is malonic acid cu acetic anhyride, in acetone and sulfuric acid.

 Thank you!

Try going backwards from meldrum's acid to the starting materials. Could the ketal functionality be made from acetone?
