A flame test was performed to confirm the identity of a metal ion in solution. The result was a green flame. Which of the following metal ions is indicated?
A) copper
B) strontium
C) sodium
D) zinc
So I know it's not strontium or sodium. But when it comes down to copper or zinc, isn't zinc like a bluish or whitish green and what color copper is depends on if it's copper(I), copper(II) halide, or copper(II) non-halide? So why is the answer copper, rather than zinc? Couldn't it be both?
