i thought octa meant 8. however in my inorganic book it shows a center atom with 6 atoms attached to it. that makes 6 +1 = 7. what am i missing?

thanks!

Octa refers to the number of faces.

Octa refers to the number of faces.

i guess i still dont get it. if filled in, all 6 ligands would form a cube in the shape of a Di (single dice). Thus a di/dice has 6 sides/faces.  ???
