Correct way to write diluent
« on: August 30, 2005, 03:23:38 PM »
I am in a debate on how I document diluent at my workplace.
Here is the subject in question.    I use a diluent that is a listed as
MeOH:H2O (50:50)
My argument is that MeOH:H2O is the same as MeOH:H2O (50:50) and a sound way to write my diluent.   Can anyone give their opinion on if i am correct or not.  Also, if some one could site something that shows my point is correct that would be great.    Thanks   Bill Howell

While it seems logical I would prefer to add 50:50 ratio just for clarity. As for every other ratio you will add the numbers (like 25:75) not giving them in this one particular case may lead to problems later - was it 50:50, or did I forgot to put the correct ratio used?

It is vol:vol? Worst animal known to chemists :)
