Just learning about Solvent extraction followed by Distilation. My chosen subject, to the irritation of my lecturor, is the 1948 Ritter experiment. After extracting Benzedrene base with Toluene, is then says distilation is required. Toluene starts to evaporate at 110.6 Celsius and Benzedrene, 203 repectively. But why do both liquids require continued distilation. Cant the Toluene be removed, without bringing over/evaporating the second . I'm very confused.
