« on: December 21, 2010, 07:58:31 AM »

Can I get Na(s) using this reaction ?

Cu -> C ²+
Na+ -> Na

Yes Why ? No Why ?

Thank you very much

So the problem is : Cu doesn't react with Water ?
Copper has a lower activity than hydrogen and cannot replace it.?

compare reduction potential of the claimed elements Na Cu ,   to predict which species could be reduced and the one that can be oxidized

for this u should know about reduction -oxidation potential( electrochemical series).cu has low tendency to form ion.
cu+2  +2e-    ::equil::  cu
has +E value means equilibrium is towards right or low tendency to form ion or low reactivity.so less chance to react with cl
