mCPBA epoxidation products
« on: December 31, 2010, 04:21:53 PM »

Is it correct that we get two products? Why ? Is it because of formation of two new chiral centers?

No, it is not due to the number of chiral centres formed. The starting material is achiral and planar; nucleophilic attack by the alkene onto mCPBA could occur from either face of the compound, giving the two products.
