Silver nitrate and absolute ethanol
« on: January 26, 2011, 08:53:10 AM »
Hi all,

Currently, i would like try to use silver nitrate tracer solution to revealed porosities within dentin in chemically-dried with using ethanol conditions. So water should not contaminate it never.

But conventional silver nitrate solution is %50 agno3 w/W with water.

So i decided to use ethanol instead of water. I am not chemist.  and i am not sure if it will be  ok?

non-aqueous solution of silver nitrate with pure ethanol can function equally to water solution of it?

and i am open to any suggestion about my target. How can i tracing human dentin chemically dired without contaminating it with water.

any answer?  ???

why does everybody use silver nitrate in water as an tracer for "sensitive to water contamination specimens" ?

is there any way to replace water?

I think now more clearer.
thanks again.

I strongly doubt silver nitrate is soluble in ethanol. To some extent it will be, but I doubt you will be able to prepare concentrated solutions. And 50% is highly concentrated.

Hi borek, thank you for your answer.

Yes i know it seems a bit odd when compared with ethanolic silver nitrate solution used for halides, but it is true, 50% silver nitrate solution generally is deployed in studies as a tracer to reveal nanoleakage within resin-dentin interfaces.  (i added reference at the end of the answer)

Also i could not find any source why it is %50. I tink i have to study this point too :)

And i think i found what i want here http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3830650.html.

I am not chemist and i dont understand chemistry but they use hydroxyl ions to precipitate out silver as ag2o and then they dissolve this with using pyridine.

It seems completely water free and this was what i want.

thanks
